Text Box: Welcome to the Senegalese Association of Houston
 ( S.A.H.) Official web site
 Message from the President
Welcome to the SAH homepage.  As it is stated in the preamble of our Constitution, the SAH goal is to “create an harmonious and healthy forum to help the Senegalese voice their various concerns as well as reach and maintain a stable cultural and economic balance, to pursue our common goals of fostering a viable and respected community with equal access to justice and opportunity ,to uplift the image of Senegal and Senegalese ,and to research ways to galvanize prosperity in Senegal ”.
We are embarking on an exciting adventure. As the voice of the people of Senegalese descent in Houston, we are dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for our members. As immigrants we know that life is filled with expectations and challenges.  We face several pressures of everyday living at bay: demand on time and thought, necessity to integrate a new socio-economic, educational, and cultural system different from that of our country of origin, physical sacrifice that weights heavily on our shoulders.  However, despite all these hurdles, the Senegalese spirit has risen. Very high it has risen! Very bright it has shinned!  Houston is the home of several Senegalese entrepreneurs, business owners, professionals, engineers, lawyers, College professors, managers, Students, workers,..etc. The number keeps growing.  These success-stories make proud the whole Houston Senegalese community.  They are the living example that with hard work, a sense of dignity, pride, and strong values, the sky is no limit.  They are following the footsteps of famous Senegalese who made a contribution to America since the Antebellum era: Anna Kingsley (whose real Senegalese name was Anta Majigeen Njaay) a Grand son of whom  (Egbert Sammis) was elected Senator in Florida in 1884; Phyllis Wheatley, the First African-American women writer whose poems impressed President Gorge Washington; and religious scholars such as Job Ben Solomon (Abdurrahman of Bundu), Bilali of Fouta Toro. The SAH is prouder than ever, because most of those successful Senegalese are volunteering to help newcomers and to become board members. The idea of getting back to your community is the cornerstone of our policy.
We stand firm in our belief that our beloved country has done enough for us. It is get back time. The best way to thank our country of origin is to be its best ambassador and its best advocate.
We intend to serve as a bridge between our country of origin and our host country. We will bring what Senegal has best to offer in improving the socio-cultural and economic life of Houstonians. We will also bring the best America has to offer in contributing to the economic growth, and socio-cultural development of Senegal.
Deeply rooted in  the “Teranga” (Hospitality value),  it is our duty to involve in public diplomacy by being the advocate of America’s greatness, its people’s hospitality, open-mindedness and sense of justice, the hard welcome from our African-American brothers, their sense of brotherhood, their wonderful and deeply committed Africa advocacy campaigns.
From Jawneen , sitting around a brotherly table, under the royal tree, our great leaders such as Senghor, Cheikh Anta Diop, William E.B. DuBois, Sullivan, and Marcus Garvey are looking at us and saying: “This is the way to go!” We also advocate for Senegal by using our position to foster more investment and educational development for our beloved country.
We are delighted to launch this web-page to bring a greater visibility of the SAH a
ctions. Along
with feature notes on Senegal and Houston, this w ebpagngs latest news on SAH activitie s.
